Andrew A. Magwood

I began my career after law school doing insurance coverage litigation and insurance coverage opinions at a major regional law firm in California. I then worked in-house at the general counsel’s office of an international insurance company, and then at a well respected national litigation law firm handling business and injury lawsuits.

(I would probably bore you with tales of construction-defect claims, that train accident I handled, or the product liability case involving volleyball equipment.)

I handle state and federal appeals and have argued and won cases and written briefs for the Connecticut Supreme Court, Connecticut Appellate Court, the California Supreme Court, and California Courts of Appeal and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.

My cases include judgments and settlements totaling in the millions for my clients in injury cases, product defect lawsuits, medical drug and device cases, employment lawsuits and business disputes. (I obtained a judgment for over $2 million in a case against a fraudulent debt-settlement organization posing as a law firm.) On the defense side, I have numerous complete defense verdicts at trial and by motion practice.

Prior to becoming a lawyer I spent seven years on active duty in the United States Coast Guard, serving in Long Beach, CA, New London, CT and Detroit, MI. I have worked on successful political campaigns for politicians in both state and federal offices, and served as a legislative assistant to the Assistant Majority Leader to the Connecticut General Assembly.

I am an avid bow-hunter and fly-fisherman. I have been married to my wife for 27 years, and we have two children and three grandchildren. I live in Norwich, and have lived in Southeastern Connecticut for about 15 years total, and although I was born in California, consider this my home.
